About This Role

Fractional CMO

Plum Good Marketing \| *adj: very good. worth having.™*

Plum Good Marketing is hiring a Fractional CMO. The role goes to someone who has spent five to eight years getting good at owning client relationships and is ready to step into the marketing seat at our clients’ leadership tables.

You'll own your clients' marketing strategy. You'll attend their leadership meetings. You'll connect every marketing tactic to a business outcome they actually care about. You’re not someone who takes orders, you take *ownership*. That's the job. And it’s really fun and rewarding.

This is also a development role. You're not expected to walk in carrying a full client load on day one. The first months are training, shadowing, and onboarding into Plum's voice, methodology, and the way we operate inside our clients' businesses.

About Plum

We're a fractional CMO firm based in Metro Detroit. Our clients are growth\-ready manufacturers, EOS\-aligned leadership teams, and second\-generation business owners. They have execution happening everywhere and strategic marketing ownership nowhere. They need us to fill that very important seat.

We're technically an agency, but we don’t act like one. We operate inside our clients' businesses as the marketing department they always wished they had.

Our seven core values are very well thought out and actionable in everything we do. We came up with them as a team and they're the filters we use for hiring, operating, and choosing clients:

  • We are Reliable: We do what we say. Clients never have to chase us.
  • We are Strategic: Strategy is our love language. Every tactic ties to a business outcome, or we don't do it.
  • We are Experts: We've held our own in big rooms with smart people, and we belong there. When we know something, we say it with conviction. When we don't, we ask without being ashamed.
  • We have EQ: Behind every frustrated client is a business owner who's poured everything into what they've built. We meet them there first.
  • We are Thoughtful: We push back when something isn't in a client's best interest, or when "going above and beyond" has quietly turned into going at our own expense. Thoughtful means intentional, not slow.
  • We are Worth It: We don't deliver work that isn't worth someone's time, attention, or money. Full presence is part of the value, and we know our value.
  • We are Integrative: We don't operate in silos. Plum isn't a vendor you hand a task to. We're the connective tissue between vision and results.

We're also operationally obsessed. We’re proud to have clear workflows and actual SOPs. And, we love Asana. We have written etiquette agreements for how we work together. We are utterly allergic to manufactured emergencies and chaos.

We work remotely across different schedules. We assume positive intent. We don't manufacture fire drills. We hold each other accountable firmly and kindly. Full presence for our clients starts with full presence for ourselves.

We run on EOS internally. Level 10s, rocks, scorecards, V/TO. If those words mean nothing to you yet, that’s ok, you'll learn them. If they're already part of your vocabulary, we love that too!

What You'll Do

You own your clients' marketing leadership. That means:

  • Creating quarterly strategies connected to their business goals.
  • Participating in leadership meetings (L10s for our EOS clients) as the marketing expert.
  • Coordinating with the teams executing the marketing work, whether that’s the amazing delivery team at Plum, your clients’ internal marketing employees, or the agencies they’ve hired.
  • Owning the rocks (goals), the roadmap, the reporting, and the relationship

Your clients will fall into three patterns: manufacturers with direct\-to\-consumer channels, B2B and niche manufacturing companies running on EOS, and second\-generation owners modernizing legacy brands.

About You

You probably look something like this:

  • Five to eight years in account management, brand leadership, agency operations, or in\-house marketing director roles
  • A history of owning client relationships and being trusted with the outcome
  • Comfortable working across marketing channels. You don't need to be a specialist in any of them. You need to know what good looks like and when something isn't.
  • Willing to give direct advice when it's uncomfortable, and skilled enough to do it in a way that strengthens the relationship rather than threatens it
  • Strong people skills, sharp business sense, and operational empathy. A hospitality background is a plus and not a coincidence: several of us came up through hospitality and have found a lot of value in that experience.

EOS fluency and manufacturing experience are a plus. Neither is required.

Who This Role Isn’t For

  • Senior fractional CMOs who are already running their own book. The compensation here is calibrated for someone stepping into the role, not someone with years of fCMO work behind them.
  • Pure tacticians who specialize in one channel
  • Strategy consultants who don't want to be in the work
  • Solo consultants looking for a part\-time side gig
  • Marketing directors who want to advise without owning the outcome

The Support You'll Have

You won't be a department of one. Plum has specialists across SEO and AI search, paid media, content, design, video, and operations. Our founder provides strategic alignment and executive support across your accounts. You'll have a peer in the role already, and a clear model for how the work gets done day\-to\-day.

You own your clients' success. The team owns the execution work that makes the success visible.

The Details

Salary: $70,000 to $90,000, depending on experience.

Structure: Full time, W\-2 employment.

Benefits: Not yet. A formal benefits package is on Plum's roadmap as the company grows, but it isn't part of this offer. We're saying that openly so you can decide whether the rest of the offer works without it.

Schedule: Full time.

Location: Fully remote. We come together in person periodically for leadership meetings, photo shoots, and local client visits, so Metro Detroit is a preference, not a requirement. You'll also see your own clients in person as the work requires.

What We're Asking In Return

We're hiring someone who wants to build something with Plum over years, not someone looking for the next gig on a list. The role will ramp into full Fractional CMO ownership over the first six to twelve months. After that, you'll have a roster of clients you own end\-to\-end, and a seat at the table as Plum continues to grow.
