About This Role
Overview
We are seeking we are seeking an experienced Fractional Controller with deep insurance industry accounting expertise to help design, document, and implement scalable accounting processes and financial controls. This role is ideal for an experienced insurance accounting professional who has successfully built and managed accounting functions for insurance agencies, brokerages, MGAs, wholesalers, or program administrators.
We are looking for a hands\-on accounting leader who can evaluate our current accounting practices and build a strong financial infrastructure to support future growth.
This is not a bookkeeping position. The successful candidate will serve as a strategic accounting advisor and process architect, and in some ways as a consultant, helping us establish best\-in\-class accounting procedures, financial reporting, controls, and workflows.
The ideal candidate has significant experience with insurance agency accounting, commission accounting, agency\-billed business, carrier payables, MGA operations, and various agency management systems.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Process Development
- Evaluate current accounting workflows and procedures
- Design and document scalable accounting policies and processes
- Develop month\-end and year\-end closing procedures
- Establish internal controls and accounting best practices
- Create accounting process documentation and workflow manuals
Insurance Accounting
- Review and optimize agency bill accounting workflows
- Develop procedures for carrier payable reconciliations
- Establish commission accounting methodologies
- Review premium collection and premium remittance processes
- Evaluate accounting treatment for various insurance transactions
- Ensure proper revenue recognition and expense allocation practices
Financial Reporting
- Develop management reporting packages
- Establish monthly financial reporting processes
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting procedures
- Create key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial dashboards
- Review chart of accounts structure and recommend improvements
Systems \& Technology
- Optimize accounting software configuration and workflows
- Review integration points between operational and accounting systems
- Recommend automation opportunities
- Improve reporting efficiency and data accuracy
Advisory \& Training
- Train internal staff on accounting procedures
- Serve as a resource for accounting and financial questions
- Coordinate with external CPA firms and tax advisors
- Provide guidance on accounting best practices for growth
Required Qualifications
- 10\+ years of accounting experience
- 5\+ years of insurance agency, brokerage, MGA, or wholesale insurance accounting experience
- Strong understanding of, Agency bill accounting, Commission accounting, Carrier payables, Insurance brokerage financial operations, Reconciliations and month\-end close, and Internal controls
- Experience building accounting processes from the ground up
- Strong analytical and problem\-solving skills
- Excellent written communication and documentation abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation
- Former Controller, Accounting Manager, or Finance Director
- Experience with MGAs, wholesalers, program administrators, or specialty insurance operations
- Experience implementing accounting software or workflow improvements
- Background in insurance regulatory and operational accounting
- Experience creating accounting procedure manuals and training materials

Within the first several months, the Fractional Controller will help:
- Establish documented accounting workflows
- Improve financial reporting accuracy and consistency
- Implement standardized month\-end close procedures
- Strengthen internal controls
- Create accounting and reconciliation templates
- Increase visibility into company financial performance
- Build a scalable accounting infrastructure to support future growth
Compensation
Competitive hourly or monthly retainer structure based on experience and qualifications.
Pay: $2,000\.00 \- $4,000\.00 per month
