About The Role About SkyAccess
SkyAccess operates at the frontier of private aviation, rebuilding a market that spent decades hidden behind brokers and phone calls. Every day, roughly 40 percent of private jets fly empty. That capacity already exists. Almost no one can see it. We make it visible.
Our marketplace connects travelers directly with Part 135-certified operators: real flights, real prices, direct booking. No broker layer, no inflated quotes, no guesswork. We give people back a decision that was never anyone's to make.
We're scaling fast. Our technology and our people are the reason operators trust us with their inventory and travelers trust us with their trips.
We're a small, dedicated, mission-driven team and we intend to stay that way. We believe the best work happens when exceptionally talented people are given ownership, trust and the space to operate without bureaucratic friction. We work with urgency and intellectual honesty and expect new team members to match our velocity. If you're energized by the idea of a small team doing things that feel impossible, let's build together.
About The Role SkyAccess is looking for a Financial Controller to own finance end to end. Every booking moves money in two directions, between travelers and operators. You'll make sure every dollar is accounted for, every decision is backed by numbers, and the company always knows exactly where it stands.
This is a builder's role. You'll start hands-on in the books and learn exactly how money moves through the business. Then you'll turn that knowledge into the systems, policies and team that run finance as we scale. You'll become the person the co-founders turn to before every major decision.
The ideal candidate has done this before. You've built a finance function at a growing company, you're comfortable doing the work yourself before you delegate it, and you'll tell founders no when the numbers say so.
What you'll do
- Own the books. Close every month on schedule and deliver clear financials with a short narrative on what changed and why.
- Get your hands in it first. Work directly in the ledger at the start, then document the processes and hand day-to-day transaction work to a bookkeeping team you lead and shape.
- Plan the cash. Build the budgets, rolling cash forecast and runway view that leadership runs the company on, and answer "can we afford this?" with confidence.
- Build the controls. Approval workflows, spend policies and an audit trail that apply to everyone, founders included.
- Get marketplace accounting right. Revenue recognition, customer credits and refunds, and operator payables.
- Keep us compliant. Own the tax and compliance calendar, including aviation excise taxes and multi-state obligations, and manage our outside CPA firm.
- Be the finance voice in strategy. Bring the numbers that decide where we invest next, and get us ready for investor reporting as we grow.
Who you are
- An active US CPA license. This is the one hard requirement.
- 5+ years in accounting, including owning the close at a startup or high-growth company.
- You've built a finance function from scratch, not just maintained one.
- Strong in marketplace accounting: gross vs. net, funds held for others, refunds and payables.
- Deep QuickBooks Online experience.
- Hands-on with US tax compliance: sales and use tax, multi-state payroll tax and pass-through entities.
- You use AI in your daily work. We run on Claude.
- You can explain a variance to a non-accountant in a few sentences.
- Absolute discretion.
Strong pluses: aviation, charter or travel accounting; federal excise tax experience; fundraising and investor reporting; leading a remote bookkeeping team.
The details
- Fractional to start. More hours in the first two months while you learn the business, then about 10 hours a week, growing with the company.
- Pay depending on experience.
- Remote, US-based, with meaningful overlap with US Pacific hours.
How to apply
Apply using the link. Tell us about a finance function you built or fixed: what was broken, what you changed, and how you knew it worked.
SkyAccess is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status or any other legally protected characteristic.
