Job Overview

The Board of Directors of Peninsula Youth Orchestra is seeking a collaborative, organized, and mission\-driven Interim Executive Director to provide operational leadership and administrative oversight during a transitional period for the organization.

This interim role is intended to stabilize and support day\-to\-day operations while the Board conducts a thoughtful search for a permanent Executive Director. The Interim Executive Director will work closely with the Board, music director(s), staff, faculty, students, and families to ensure continuity of programming and organizational effectiveness throughout the upcoming season.

The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and skilled administrator who is comfortable managing multiple priorities in a dynamic arts education environment.

About the Organization

Peninsula Youth Orchestra is a nonprofit youth orchestra organization dedicated to providing high\-quality orchestral training, performance opportunities, and music education experiences for young musicians throughout the community. Through rehearsals, concerts, tours, chamber music, summer camps and educational programming, the organization fosters artistic growth, discipline, collaboration, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure continuity of all programs (2026\-2027 season), providing stable leadership during transition.
  • Serving as the primary administrative liaison to the Board of Directors.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Operations and Communications, support auditions, rehearsals, concerts, camps, and tours.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Operations and Communications, maintain communications with families, faculty, and students.
  • In collaboration with the Treasurer and the Director of Operations and Communications, oversee finance and administration.
  • Supervising administrative staff and coordinating volunteers as applicable.
  • Maintaining organizational systems, calendars, databases, and communications.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Operations and Communications, support enrollment, registration, and family communications including donor, sponsor, and community relations.
  • Coordinating with artistic leadership regarding operational needs.
  • In collaboration with the Board and the Director of Operations and Communications, support implementation of policies, procedures, and organizational priorities.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in project management, nonprofit administration, arts administration, education administration, or related organizational leadership.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience managing complex schedules, deadlines, and multiple stakeholders.
  • Budgeting and operational oversight experience preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Board members, artistic staff, educators, families, and community partners.
  • Comfort with digital systems, databases, and collaborative software platforms
  • Appreciation for music education and youth arts programming.

Experience within performaning arts organizations, educational organizations, or nonprofit environments is highly desirable but not strictly required.

Position Structure

  • Interim, flexible structure depending on candidate availability and organizational needs.
  • Expected start date: Immediate
  • Duration: Approximately 6\-12 months or until a permanent Executive Director is appointed.
  • Compensation: $85,000\-$100,000 dependent on experience
