SEO Director, Contract (National to Local Enterprise Focus)

This is not a role for the faint of heart. We need a leader who can navigate corporate red tape, influence stakeholders, and deliver measurable results at scaleall while managing a high\-performing SEO team.
About the Role
The Sr. SEO Director will lead a team of Strategists and Project Managers, overseeing multi\-channel campaigns that span SEO, Digital PR, and Social Media. This role requires deep experience with large franchise or multi\-location businesses and the ability to balance enterprise\-level complexity with local market execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership:Shape high\-level SEO strategy during client kickoffs and ensure seamless execution across campaign lifecycles.
- Performance Analysis:Conduct quarterly campaign audits using ranking reports, Google Search Console, and analytics to measure success and pivot as needed.
- Consulting \& Documentation:Own the development of SEO consulting documents and collaborate with internal teams to refine recommendations.
- Prospective Client Reviews:Deliver site audits and competitive analyses to support sales efforts and new business development.
- Team Management:Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 8\-16 members, including Lead Strategists, Project Managers, and Coordinators. Conduct weekly 1:1s, biweekly team meetings, and performance reviews.
- Training \& Development:Provide SEO training to employees, contractors, and clients. Stay ahead of industry trends and lead internal innovation initiatives.
- Process Improvement:Document and refine internal processes to drive efficiency and scalability.
- Cross\-Functional Collaboration:Partner with Sales, Account Management, Content, Social, Digital PR, PPC, and Development teams to ensure cohesive campaign execution.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Direct reports: 4\-5
- Conduct weekly 1:1s with direct reports and client'sSVP of SEO
- Lead biweekly team meetings
- Host at least one webinar annually and an Innovation Friday every six months
- Support sales pitches as needed
- Create clear growth paths and goals for team members
Qualifications
- 10\+ years of digital marketing experience, with 10\+ years specifically in SEO
- Agency experience required
- Deep expertise in on\-site SEO, technical SEO, link building, and keyword strategy
- Strong understanding of content strategy, user experience, and the intersection of social media and SEO
- Proficiency with WordPress and major social platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.)
- Proven client\-facing experience with enterprise or franchise clients
- Ability to navigate complex organizational structures and drive results through collaboration and persistence
- Strong communicator who can prioritize multiple projects and lead with confidence
