Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) \- Healthcare Experience Required

Role Description
Horsepower Today is seeking a forward\-thinking and people\-first Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve a growing healthcare client operating across both non\-profit and for\-profit entities in the Omaha area. This fractional role is ideal for a seasoned finance leader who thrives in collaborative environments, isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo, and can bring fresh, modern thinking to an organization ready to evolve. You’ll serve as a trusted strategic partner to the leadership team, attending monthly board meetings in person and being on\-site more frequently at the outset to build relationships and gain a strong understanding of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the leadership team and oversee a one\-person finance department, providing guidance, mentorship, and clear direction.
- Attend monthly board meetings in person; transition to a hybrid schedule after establishing a strong foundation with the team.
- Identify and implement modern financial processes and systems to replace outdated workflows, driving operational efficiency and long\-term scalability.
- Provide strategic guidance on tax positioning for both non\-profit and for\-profit entities — ensuring the organization is well\-prepared ahead of filings (not responsible for filing).
- Build rapport quickly across a 30\-person team, seeking buy\-in on financial initiatives and fostering a culture of collaboration and transparency.
- Develop and monitor financial strategies, forecasting, and reporting that support organizational growth and sustainability.
- Proactively identify financial risks and opportunities, bringing data\-driven recommendations to leadership.
Qualifications
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, including senior\-level leadership over financial operations.
- Experience in healthcare, non\-profit, and/or for\-profit financial environments strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to modernize financial operations — experience assessing legacy processes and implementing scalable improvements.
- Strong understanding of tax strategy and positioning across both non\-profit and for\-profit structures.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; a natural relationship\-builder who can earn trust quickly and work across all levels of an organization.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop finance staff.
- Strategic thinker with a hands\-on approach — comfortable rolling up your sleeves while keeping the big picture in view.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Must be local to the Omaha, NE area.
Role Details
Project\-based fractional engagement; not a full\-time or permanent position. Hours are flexible and commensurate with scope. Initial on\-site presence expected, with flexibility to work remotely over time outside of required in\-person board meetings. Target start date: July 1st.

Pay: From $100\.00 per hour
