Construction Controller (Sage 100 Contractor Experience Required)

FG Construction is seeking an experienced Controller to lead our Finance \& Accounting function. This is a high\-impact, hands\-on leadership role where you will serve as the primary financial business partner to the CEO and operational leadership. WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Lead the end\-to\-end accounting function — GL, AP, AR, job cost, payroll oversight, cash management, month\-end/year\-end close, and financial reporting
- Own job cost accounting and the Work\-in\-Progress (WIP) schedule; collaborate with Project Managers on percent complete, over/under billings, and profitability
- Manage cash position and short\-term forecasting; oversee bank reconciliations, approve disbursements, and support banking relationships
- Drive annual budgeting and periodic forecasting; monitor budget vs. actuals and deliver variance analysis to the CEO
- Design and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and SOPs across AP, AR, purchasing, and GL
- Coordinate year\-end audit/review/compilation with the external CPA; serve as primary liaison for tax and compliance matters (income tax, sales/use tax, property tax, 1099\)
- Manage bonding, insurance, and lender reporting — prepare WIP schedules, financial statements, and covenant certifications
- Oversee payroll accuracy in partnership with HR, including payroll tax compliance, workers' comp audits, and certified payroll
- Lead, develop, and evaluate the accounting team (AP Coordinator, AR Coordinator, Purchasing Coordinator)
- Own Sage 100 Contractor and drive system improvements, automation, and process efficiencies
- Prepare and present executive\-level financial reporting, dashboards, and ad hoc analysis to the CEO and leadership team
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- CPA, CMA, or CCIFP (Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional) strongly preferred
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leader — construction industry experience is required
- Hands\-on proficiency with Sage 100 Contractor (full GL, AP, AR, Job Cost, Payroll, and reporting modules) — this is a firm requirement
- Demonstrated experience with percentage\-of\-completion accounting, WIP schedules, AIA billing, lien waivers, subcontractor compliance, surety reporting, and external audit coordination
Skills \& abilities
- Expert\-level Sage 100 Contractor proficiency
- Strong command of US GAAP and construction\-specific accounting including revenue recognition and WIP reporting
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, complex formulas, financial modeling)
- Proven leadership and team development skills; ability to set standards and hold a team accountable
- Executive\-level communication — ability to translate complex financial data for non\-financial audiences
- High attention to detail; able to manage competing priorities across multiple close cycles simultaneously

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Primarily office\-based within a construction company setting. Regular interaction with the CEO, Project Managers, operational leadership, external auditors, bankers, and sureties. Occasional visits to job sites and the yard are expected. Additional hours are required during month\-end/year\-end close, budget season, audits, and bonding renewals.
