Controller / Director of Finance
Small Business \| DoD \& DHS Government Contractor
Location: Northern Virginia / Hybrid
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Overview
We are a growing small business government contractor supporting the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) seeking a Controller / Director of Finance to lead day\-to\-day financial operations. This is a hands\-on role responsible for accounting, government contract billing, compliance, and financial reporting in a regulated environment. The position works closely with the CEO and external advisors and has a clear growth path as the company scales.
Key Responsibilities
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting
- Manage government contract accounting, billing, and revenue recognition
- Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, HSAR, and DCAA requirements
- Track and maintain indirect cost rates and support pricing activities
- Support DCAA, DCMA, and DHS audits; maintain audit\-ready documentation
- Manage AP/AR, payroll, and cash flow monitoring
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Coordinate with external CPA firms, auditors, and fractional CFO support
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 7\+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
- Government contracting experience required (DoD and/or DHS preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of FAR/DFARS and DCAA audit processes
- Experience with government\-compliant accounting systems \- Deltek Costpoint
- Hands\-on, detail\-oriented, and comfortable in a small business environment
Preferred
- CPA or CMA certification
- Experience supporting cost\-plus, T\&M, and fixed\-price contracts
- Experience in a small business or high\-growth environment

Pay: $120,000\.00 \- $130,000\.00 per year
