Job Title: Interim Kitchen Compliance & Operations Manager
Reports to: Director Food & Climate Justice
Department: Food & Climate Justice
Pay : $40-$50 hr.
Schedule : Part Time (20 hours a week)

Length of Position: Temporary (Estimated end date June 30, 2026)

This position is designed to strengthen Community Action Marin's food compliance systems and integrate recent programmatic changes. The Interim Kitchen Compliance & Operations Manager will support preparations for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Administrative Review, monitor the implementation of new systems and policies, and reinforce kitchen-related policies and standard operating procedures. This role advances CAM's commitment to providing nutritious, sustainable food services while ensuring regulatory compliance and operational excellence.

CACFP Administrative Review Preparation

  • Coordinate comprehensive preparation efforts for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Administrative Review, ensuring all documentation, records, and operational practices meet federal and state compliance requirements.
  • Conduct internal audits of meal service records, attendance tracking, menu compliance, and financial documentation to identify and address any gaps prior to the official review.
  • Coordinate with program staff, kitchen team, and administrative personnel to ensure all parties understand review requirements and are prepared for site visits and interviews.
  • Organize and account for all required documentation, including meal count records, enrollment forms, eligibility documentation, transport records, etc.
  • Lead logistics for the Administrative Review process.

Systems Implementation & Monitoring

  • Verify implementation of required kitchen systems, policies and operational procedures to support ongoing CACFP compliance.
  • Conduct regular site observations and check-ins with kitchen staff to assess adherence to new protocols and provide real-time feedback and support.
  • Develop monitoring tools, checklists, and reporting mechanisms to track progress and document outcomes.
  • Develop training materials, visual aids, and job aids to support ongoing staff development and ensure consistency in kitchen operations.

Policy & Standard Operating Procedure Development

  • Create comprehensive, user-friendly standard operating procedures (SOPs) for undefined kitchen operations in collaboration with the Executive Chef & Head of Food Services .
  • Finalize written policies and procedures for to ensure CACFP compliance as needed, which may include but is not limited to, meal patterns, menu planning, dietary accommodations, food safety and sanitation, inventory management, meal quantity accuracy, and meal transport and delivery.
  • Ensure all policies and SOPs align with CACFP regulations, health department requirements, and food safety standards.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to review and refine policies, incorporating feedback from kitchen staff, program managers, and administrative leadership.
  • Create systems for document management and version control to ensure policies and SOPs remain current and accessible.

Qualifications

*Education*: Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Environmental or Food Science, Agroecology, Public Health Nutrition, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in institutional food service operations, nutrition programs, or food systems work.
  • Experience with CACFP or similar child nutrition programs strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in policy development and systems implementation.
  • Background in food justice, sustainability, or community-based nutrition programs is highly valued.
